Steel Yard Worker
General Laborer for steel yard needed.
Must be able to lift 50 pounds or more when required.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Ability to read a tape measure
- Loading and off loading of trucks/ verifying shipments
- Operate forklift, saws, rebar cutters/Benders, overhead cranes
- Assist in material fabrication
- Paint Fabricated steel
- Pick up and load customer orders
- Store incoming merchandise
- Occasional pick up truck deliveries
- Keep work area neat and safe
Qualifications and Skills
- Building and Construction — Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction involving structural steel in buildings

Work Location: In person
Shop Production Manager
- Read and Layout of shop drawings.
- Assigns/ delegates shop work. Oversees that work is completed on time and per spec.
- Maintains inventory- verifying assigned work has adequate material to ensure completion as well as coordinates with Yard manager to ensure stocked material is available.
- Coordinates with Project Management team and Estimating on scheduling of commercial work, completion dates and material requirements. Communication is paramount on maintaining workflow and productivity.
- Coordinates with Inside Sales to ensure lead times are expeditious and also accommodate all other shop work load.
- Coordinates with Yard manager to maintain proper equipment (PM) Preventative Maintenance, timely reporting and repairs for equipment that is malfunctioning or broken.
- Prioritizes Safety, leads tool talks, ensures shop personnel are practicing safe use of equipment and are using PPE.
- Reports on production and shop needs at weekly Steel Production meetings.
- Timely and Efficient production of Commercial Fabrication while maintaining volume and accuracy of Residential Fabrication.
- Maintain stocked, pre-cut and rebar to ensure availability for sale and fabrication requirements.

Project Manager
- Manage Steel projects passed from Estimating to final billing
- Coordinate project schedule with shop and customer requirements
- Control the flow of information between customer, shop, architect, engineer, detailer, erector etc. This includes management of shop drawings, contract drawings, tracking revisions during the approval process. Reviewing final approved drawings for accuracy before issuing to shop for fabrication.
- Issue all necessary RFI’s to ensure smooth fabrication and erection of projects
- Monitor project scope and issue any change orders necessary
- Schedule erector and address any field issues that may arise.
- 3 – 5 years industry experience in either Steel or Building materials construction management
- Knowledge of Steel Shapes, nomenclature and product application
- Knowledge of steel connection methods
- Experience, reading and interpreting plans/blueprints
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret project specs, present information and respond to questions from customers and management.
- Ability to assess field conditions and take field measurements

- 1 year of related experience or training preferred, not required

- Minimal moving violations
- Good interpersonal skills to establish and maintain respectful relationships with other staff and customers
- Interpreting written information such as safety rules, sales tickets, and operating instructions
- Safely drive concrete mixer truck
