Bladensburg, MD — February 1, 2026 — Ernest Maier, a leading family-owned Mid-Atlantic supplier of masonry, hardscape, and construction materials, proudly announces its 100-year anniversary. Since its founding in 1926, the company has grown from a single hand-powered Sears block machine into a diversified family of brands dedicated to supporting builders, contractors, engineers, and communities throughout the Mid-Atlantic region that still proudly manufactures its own block.
A Century of Progress Founded by Ernest Maier in 1926, the company began with a simple mission: provide top quality concrete masonry units to support growing infrastructure needs in the DC area. Over the decades, we have expanded our geographic footprint, product lines, and technical capabilities— becoming known for quality, innovation, and customer service.
Today, the Ernest Maier family of businesses includes:
- Ernest Maier Block — high-performance masonry, hardscaping, and natural stone products
- Ernest Maier Steel – commercial and residential steel fabrication and installation
- Bay Ready Mix – ready-mix and specialty concrete offerings

Key Historical Dates
July 1, 1926- German immigrant Ernest Maier Sr. founds his masonry company as Ernest Maier & Sons at the age of 26
1940- Ernest Maier Group purchases our current headquarters in Bladensburg, MD
1984– Ernest Maier Sr. hands over the leadership to his sons
1995– The Quinn family takes the reins of leadership from the Maier family
2003– Ernest Maier Group expands into Delaware with the addition of Parker Block (established 1929)
2010 Skyline Brick, with headquarters in historic Charlottesville, VA, is founded as part of the EM family.
2013 Ernest Maier purchases Standard Supplies of Gaithersburg, rebranding it Ernest Maier. This expands Ernest Maier’s retail and yard locations to Montgomery County and expanded our product offering to include structural steel.
2015 Bay Ready Mix joins the Ernest Maier family giving EM the ability to deliver ready mix concrete from plants throughout Maryland.
2017 Gomoljak Block Co. (established 1931) in Annapolis, MD joins the Ernest Maier family
2022 The Beauty of Block, Ernest Maier steps into leadership roles in the national masonry checkoff program
2025 Ernest Maier opens a new retail location in Annapolis Junction, MD
