Fiberglass Rebar Codes

Mike Simon | August 1, 2023

While it has been around for 40+ years, glass-fiber reinforced polymers (GFRP or fiberglass rebar) is a rapidly developing space. It’s gained traction historically because of superior material properties, based upon this interest it has progressed in a deliberate way from academic research to codes, test methods, and specifications. Furthermore this has also been accompanied by a more recent and dramatic decrease in the cost of fiberglass rebar, which is now often cheaper than black steel rebar.

Bold lines are of particular interest to the design professional

This is meant to be a start and not an exhaustive list of the relevant codes for the design professional interested in GFRP. There are many great resources beyond the standards setting bodies like ACI’s NEx and industry publications like Composites World.
